31st August 2018, marks the 61st anniversary of the Malaysia’s independence. But this day is like a “Second independence day”, following the historic general election which saw the Malaysian opposition taking office for the first time.

In a speech delivered ahead of the national day, Dr. Mahathir hailed a “second independence” of  Malaysia after the change of government.

The 93-year-old prime minister, who led the country from 1981 to 2003, returned to office in May after leading the opposition to win the general election for the first time in six decades. Recalling the challenges that the country faced when first achieved independence, Dr. Mahathir urged people and the government to “work together to revive the country.”

The new government aims to create more jobs and business opportunities. Education and training will be provided with scholarships to enhance workers’ expertise to grow their income.

During Bloconomic 2018 that was held in the heart of Kuala Lumpur, one of the attended speaker is Norhizam Kadir, Vice President (Growth Ecosystem Development) of Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC).

Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation previously known as Multimedia Development Corporation, is a government-owned institution responsible for the management of the Multimedia Super Corridor (MSC Malaysia) in Malaysia as a technology industry and commerce zone.

During Norhizam Kadir’s speech in Bloconomic 2018, he shared some of the government interventions to drive Malaysia’s digital economy.

But why with Blockchain Technology?

One of the greatest response from Norhizam Kadir, Vice President (Growth Ecosystem Development) of Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) is to Position Malaysia as  a conducive testbed for Blockchain solutions. Not only that, he also stated that with Blockchain, MDEC will try its best to optimise Malaysia position in Global Islamic Finance & other industries.

He also added that MDEC has plans to start strategising focus towards Blockchain Intervention with Trainings and community building. Besides that, MDEC is on a mission to support communities with  provision of funding ecosystem and market access.

One of the memorable moments at Bloconomic 2018 is when Malaysia Blockchain Association and MDEC shares the same interest towards building better Malaysia with Blockchain and both parties successfully partnered up to act upon their vision.

With blockchain technology we hope for two things, Malaysia’s general elections in the future to be safe, fair and hassle-free. Secondly, attract more foreign investments into Malaysia with the rapid growing tech scene.
